Camps

The NCRD "Littles" (Kinder-2nd grade) Cooking Camp was a great success. The kids learned hands-on how to use their creativity to make easy, delicious, healthy snacks. They visited a local organic farm, Nehalem River Ranch,  where they had an amazing opportunity to bottle feed some calves, and visit with the very popular pigs. The kids made grocery bags out of old T-shirts and helped take care of and grow our backyard garden. We ended the week with our very own "Jr. Chef Competition" a favorite day amongst all involved. The Cheetahs and The Elephants tied for the Golden Spoon Award. I am very proud of all my Jr. Chefs, and I look forward to see them grow in the Culinary world!

Our Youth Camps are supported by the Mudd Nick Foundation, Eugene Schmuck Foundation, Tillamook Kiwanis Club, Grub Club, and private donors.

Youth Center Staff

Leslie Vipond

Leslie Vipond

She grew up in Manhattan, KS, which is also known as the “Little Apple,” just like Manzanita, a funny coincidence. She attended after-school and summer programs at the Boys and Girls club. In high school she joined the crew team as the team coxswain(the person who steers the boat), attending both high school and collegiate national championships. She served terms as president and treasurer of the Manhattan Junior Crew. In college, while studying fine arts and economics, she volunteered coaching with the Masters Crew and youth soccer teams. She’s absolutely thrilled to work at the Youth Center where the local families have after school and summer opportunities for children that she was so grateful to have and experience as a child.

Catherine O’Neal

Catherine O’Neal

She grew up watching her younger siblings. Cat joined the Youth Center after she graduated from Neah-kah-nie High School in 2017. She is passionate about studying cultures around the world and is a master of almost all recreational activities we do with the children. As she is currently interested in the Japanese culture she is currently in the process of learning Japanese language. The interest started when she was in the second grade and has grown into a love of the culture. In her time at the Youth Center she has made a personal connection with all the children she has cared for. This experience has enhanced her life and she hopes the children we care for feel safe and happy when they are with us.

Brooklynne can often be found throughout the building helping with different projects.

As the proud mother of one girl and two active boys, her life revolves around kids, sports, and cooking. She feels fortunate to have found a place that combines all of her passions into one fulfilling job. In the summer she is the instructor of “Cooking and Gardening” Camps for youth, for K-6th grade. She has an associate degree in Culinary Arts, a certificate in Child Psychology as well as 200 hours of training in child development, special needs, program development, and management.
