Honoring A Century

Kids enjoying the NCRD pool

Our historic facility, a legacy of architect AE Doyle, holds one of the longest-serving indoor public pools on the west coast.

In 1929, the son of a local farmer drowned while swimming in the Nehalem River. Grief prompted a group of committed citizens to petition the school district to build a natatorium—in the 1921 building that now houses NCRD.

The School District 39 Board voted on December 13th, 1929 to construct the pool with the goal that no child would ever again drown.

Building a Legacy

NCRD as The Nehalem School in 1930.

Over the past century, services and the needs of the public have outgrown the space.

In 2012, Robertson-Sherwood Architects ruled out seismic and ADA access upgrades in the existing facility.

Now is the time for a renewed commitment to serve generations to come.

We have raised $2.4 MILLION to date!
